The State Academic Capella of St Petersburg held two sessions for young participants exploring the musical traditions of Russia’s peoples, great composers and the connection between music and sport.
One of them was the discussion «Music of the Peoples of Russia: What Does the Motherland Sound Like?», held as part of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. The session was moderated by the Capella’s Director General, Olga Khomova.
Together with invited experts, the participants discussed how the musical traditions of different regions developed, why folk songs are being reinterpreted today and what helps preserve Russia’s rich cultural heritage.
During the interactive lecture «Great Composers: The Game Beyond the Stage», members of the Capella invited participants to guess the unusual stories behind familiar music associated with sport, including ceremonial marches, signals, anthems and fanfares. They discovered that music was not the only passion of the great composers: their lives also included chess games, football matches and other interests.
The lecture was presented by members of the State Academic Capella of St Petersburg: Anastasia Koryakina, Olga Chichelova and Yulia Shalisheva.
Sessions like these offer new ways to experience music and discover its history.
