Chess became one of the main attractions at the 5th International Children’s Cultural Forum. The Forum’s partner, the «United World» International Chess Tournament, organised two events for participants.
On the first day, an open tournament took place at Parade Square. Anyone could sit down at a board, with no advance registration or rating restrictions. Across ten tables, officially ranked players competed alongside those just beginning to discover chess. While some considered their next moves, others followed the games, discussed the players’ decisions and waited for their turn.
The second day featured a simultaneous chess exhibition with grandmaster and Russian Junior Champion Sergey Drygalov. The grandmaster spent just two or three seconds on each move. While he moved from one board to the next, the young players had time to assess their positions and make a decision — but their move had to be ready by the time he returned!
Dozens of games were played at the «United World» venue over the two days, but the conversations continued even after the matches ended. The participants got to know one another, shared their impressions, discussed the games and returned to the boards — this time to play against each other.
