The Russian National Museum of Music is one of the oldest and largest music museums in the world.
Its history dates back to 1912, when the Nikolai Rubinstein Museum opened at the Moscow Conservatory. It was named after Nikolai Rubinstein, the Conservatory’s founder and first director. The foundation of the future museum’s collection included string instruments crafted by Italian masters, a collection of musical instruments from Central Asia and Kazakhstan, as well as Nikolai Rubinstein’s autographs and personal belongings.
Today, the museum’s collection comprises around one million items. It includes personal memorabilia, paintings, works of decorative and applied art, musical instruments, musical and literary manuscripts, rare books, autographs, letters and documents related to the lives and work of eminent figures in Russian and international musical.
Special attention should be given to the State Collection of Unique Musical Instruments of Russia, the only collection of its kind in the world. Among its treasures are instruments created by such legendary masters as Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati.
Thanks to the partnership with the museum, Forum participants will have the opportunity to explore Russia’s musical heritage, learn more about outstanding composers and performers, and discover how the history of music can inspire their own creativity.
Music has a voice — and so does its history.
